VW and DUI are two abbreviations you don't want mentioned in the same sentence. However, there is one exception - the Davis Unified Ignition - D.U.I. The DUI is a one-piece, one wire distributor for Type 1 VW engines.
The DUI, which is fully electronic, eliminates the hassles of changing points and makes for a much cleaner installation than other aftermarket systems that make a maze of messy wiring.
The DUI 50,000 volt coil, which is located inside the cap, allows you to run a .055" spark plug gap. This gives you a more powerful burn of your fuel mixture. The Dyna Module, which is located inside the distributor, has more electronic dwell time built into it. The extra dwell time allows for more coil saturation time and a hotter spark. The DUI features a heavy duty cap and rotor with solid brass terminals.
Every VW DUI is calibrated on a distributor machine with a very smooth advance curve. This leads to instant throttle response and prevents engine damaging detonation.
Although the D.U.I. is uniquely designed, replacement parts are easy to find. GM HEI replacement parts will fit right on the DUI and these parts can be found at your local auto parts store. An optional tach hookup is included with the D.U.I.
